Donna DePadova was diagnosed with
breast cancer at the age of 32.
At the time she found her breast lump, the cancer had already spread to her
lymph nodes. After surgery and a grueling course of chemotherapy and
radiation, she was free of cancer for two years. Then she developed
metastatic disease to her bones and liver.
Despite being maintained on chemotherapy for three years, she then
suffered metastatic disease to her brain. She battled through chemotherapy
and radiation treatments, and forged on. Three years later, due to the
severe metastatic disease, she broke her left hip and femur.
She underwent a partial hip and femur replacement, more chemotherapy
and radiation. Most recently, because of severe disease involvement of
her spine, she completed another course of radiation and started a more
aggressive chemotherapy regimen. Last year she was honored to present
an award at UMDNJ’s Annual Award of Hope Gala.
She presented to a nurse she has known for many years for Leadership
in Patient Care. On October 26,
2009 she will celebrate her 43rd birthday. Donna and her husband, Michael
have been married for almost 14 years, and have a beautiful son, Joseph, who
is 10 years old. She has been a patient at The Cancer Institute of New
Jersey since 1998. For over 10 years she has received wonderful care and
treatment at CINJ, which has
been her second home.

Donna is my amazing sister-in-law, and since the day she was diagnosed with
breast cancer, over 11 years ago, she has been a constant inspiration to me.
She has never let this devastating cancer limit the richness and
fullness of her life. She
continues to fill her role as dedicated wife and mother, loving daughter,
kind and thoughtful sister-in-law and caring friend, without missing a beat.
She is always helping others with her kind words and acts, despite
the numerous physical problems she deals with on a daily basis.
I am truly grateful and blessed that she is part of my family.
This day of celebration is an event to honor
the courage and strength that Donna displays every day of her life.
It is also meant to honor many other women who are courageously
battling breast cancer.
As a woman with a successful
cosmetic dermatology practice, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to
treat many women in my community.
“Donna’s Day” is an opportunity for me to give something back to
local breast cancer survivors by doing what I enjoy the most.
With the help of my incredible staff, all breast cancer survivors
participating in the event may choose any complimentary cosmetic service of
their choosing. It is a day for
celebrating life, pampering and having fun!!
